Are you sure you are in the right business?

Are you sure you are in the right business?

Do you ever question whether or not you are on the right path with your business?

Too often women entrepreneurs who would otherwise say YES! I know I am in the right business, can fall prey to doubt and confusion that clouds their vision and their truth.

Here are some of the ways you can be sure..

    • You love the work
    • You have a passion for it
    • You feel fulfilled and satisfied by how your work is helping others
    • You get to use your God-given skills, gifts and talents on a daily basis
    • You have the creative freedom to continually up level what you do
    • You continue to learn, grow and challenge yourself inside of the work
    • You make a good living doing it

So, are you in the right business?

If you said YES!, congrats for having followed your heart and for doing the work your soul has called you to do.

It isn’t easy to do that in a world that tells you, that the only way to be successful is to go to school, get a job, work for ‘the man’ and then consume, consume, consume until you die (to fill the void of having ignored the desires of your heart!).

Sometimes though, do you still feel unsatisfied and like ‘something’ is missing? You are not alone.

There are 3 reasons why this can be so..

    1) Mindset

    • Not understanding how we create and feeling like a victim of circumstance
    • Having a competitive instead of cooperative mindset
    • Lacking clarity (vision)
    • Lack of focus
    • Lacking depth of gratitude
    • Lacking steadiness of faith
    • Not actively preparing for the good to come

Without the right mindset, we create experiences we don’t want, no matter where we are or how much we have already accomplished. For that reason, we have a big focus around here that includes doing mindset and emotional work.

Truly there is really nothing else in your way of you having what you want.

    2) Resistance

    • Resistance to doing the less fun stuff
    • Resistance to sales
    • Resistance to marketing
    • Resistance to being visible
    • Resistance to keeping a consistent work schedule
    • Resistance to experiencing failure

When resistance is in the way (even when we have what we want and all the resources we need at our finger tips), we consistenly fail to act in the way that is necessary to cause increase in our life – to a standard that reflects our values.

Our true values are reflected in how we spend our time and our money.

    3) Still inside the box

    • Worried about what other people think
    • Being a people pleaser
    • Saying yes to everything
    • Letting ‘shoulds’ dictate your schedule
    • Being afraid to charge what your service is worth
    • Working 9-5, mon-frid
    • Not taking time off
    • Charging by the hour for your services
    • Doing 1 off sessions and having a hard time getting people to commit to the work

I am adamant that coaching, teaching and healing businesses cannot be sustainable in the ‘business as usual’ model because it eventually leads to burn out.

As you can see, even with being in the right business, there can be obstacles in the way that can make you doubt if you are on the right path.

It is all because of mindset patterns, emotional resistance and finally, trying to make your self fit into the box – instead of making your business a perfect fit for who you are.

That is why the Femme-Preneur business model makeover program includes a mindset makeover, as much as it includes the remodelling of your business.

In fact, I consider your feelings the fuel that runs your business, and your mindset the steering wheel.photo

We have a vehicle to give you – a business model that will fit your feminine heart like a glove!

But at the end of the day, that vehicle will only get you where you want to go, if you put the fuel in and steer it in the direction of your dreams.

While we can’t do the driving for you, what we can do is give you a vehicle, help you refuel your tank, see truthfully where you are at and give you the map to get you where you want to go!!

Is your business competitive or creative?

Is your business competitive or creative?

full moon ladyIs your business competitive or creative?

There is a creative way of doing business and a competitive one.

How do you know you’ve created your business on a competitive foundation?

    Here is how….

    1) You started your business from the thought that you are going to do something that is already proven to be a successful business, but you’ll do it better than it has been done.
    2) You are always thinking about people who are more known than you are in your industry – you are critical of them and at the same time worry about what they think of you.
    3) When you see people who work in the same profession or niche as you and you perceive them to be more successful than you are, you feel jealous.
    4) You swing back and forth from feelings of grandiosity and back downward to deep immobilizing insecurity and self loathing.
    5) You are spend more time contemplating your brand, web appearance and presence, than you focus on the continuing development of your product or service.
6)You spend more energy looking for approval/fame through social media, than you do on creating an amazing experience for your clients.

At the end of the day, you feel like you are trying hard, but nothing is working to get you the approval and success that you crave.

The sad reality is that all of the above is super unattractive and it ensures that people will be repelled rather than attracted to working with you.

What you have to understand is that we communicate WAY more without words.

    Your people can ‘feel’ you.

When you come from a competitive place, people are turned off. It doesn’t matter if you are smiling and being nice and ‘all that jazz’.

Your ‘energy’ is communicating selfish, desperate and a needy kind of energy, that literally repels people.

If you see yourself in some or all of the above, it can bring up shame… but don’t worry that is because it is coming up to be released.

We know that those qualities are not really who you are inside, so instead of suppressing, rejecting, scoffing at and denying the feelings that come up about this, can you just pause, acknowledge where you see them, feel them fully and let them go?

Every person reading this along with you, can relate to all or some of the above mentioned things, because we are all humans who have been raised in a world that values competition.

In fact, business and competition are often seen as synonymous.

And it is true that people definitely have competed their way to the top of their field by pushing people out of the way, tripping others, stealing, lying and cheating. But there is no reward there. Those are the unhappy rich we use as excuses to justify for ourselves why becoming wealthy is not a worthy goal (but that is a topic for another conversation)!

The problem for people like us, is that we’ve been programmed with unconscious competitive impulses that propel us away from our goals.

That is because competition is in direct opposition to what your heart was seeking when you first started your business.

You were thinking about how you could help, make a difference and make the world a more beautiful place.

The problem started when you told yourself ‘I’ve got to figure out how to turn this thing into a profitable business”.

For most people, learning to start a business distracts us from what inspired us to serve in the first place.

We become so focused on the ‘how’ of it all, to the point that our focus becomes self centred and we project outwardly from a place of lack, as we try to get our basic financial needs met.

But you can’t get your business off the ground, if you are mired down in that kind of overwhelm (figuring it out) or when you are projecting desperation, fear and lack.

You need to start thinking and acting in a different way that has nothing to do with figuring things out.

To help you do that, we’ve created the Business Model Makeover program.

It will help you rebuild the foundation of your business on a creative and cooperative foundation – one that builds your confidence, self esteem and the value of what you offer in the process.

To make sure that NOTHING will stand in the way of you getting the support you need, we’ve put together a pre launch flash sale to make sure that there is no obstacle to you getting back on the path to building your biz from the heart.

We live for this work and we want to make sure that no one in our community gets left behind and that is why we have chosen to work very closely with you at the group level.

The Business Model Makeover program is VALUED at well over $2000, but to keep it accessible, we’ve decided to offer it it at $1297

However, as part of our ‘reverse launch’ for today and tomorrow, you can get in and secure your spot at $397

    Yip, that’s it.

A high level training at a small investment.

Why are you making this business thing so hard?

Why are you making this business thing so hard?

No matter what stage you are in, in your business – it can be tempting to make things harder than they need to be.

But why on god’s green earth would we do that to ourselves, when on a conscious level we say that we want things to be easy?

    The answer is actually simple.

    It’s fear.

And so instead of facing the fear straight on, we try to get around it.

Here is why you are making things harder than they need to be in your business:

    1) The mind loves to complicate things – especially when what you need to do is simple, but emotionally risky. Your mind will trick you into thinking it is hard, so that you don’t do anything that could change your life. To your subconscious mind, ‘the devil you know is safer than the devil you don’t know’. And so, to keep you from taking risks, it keeps you confused, lacking clarity and feeling like you are missing something – that way, nothing changes and you get to stay in the land of excuses and never make the bold moves that will change the way things are.

    2) We give ourselves too much time – here too, the root is fear and perfection paralysis. You give yourself way too much time to get shit done and that is why it takes so much time. You are afraid that you need like forever to get it perfect or just right – and so you give yourself so much time to do it, that by the time it is even close to done – you are burnt out, bored and bummed out about it….yet inspired by something new, but stuck trying to finish what you started.

    3) We ‘should’ on ourselves – anything that you choose to do because you think you ‘should’, but your heart isn’t really in it, is pretty much going to be a grind to get to the finish line. It will be hard to do on the emotional level. You’ll meet resistance the whole way and have to push yourself through. On the other hand, you much more easily rise to the challenge, when you meet obstacles on the way to creating something that your heart is fully in.

So let me ask you this?

    • Is the current way that you are operating your business hard or does it feel in flow?
    • Is marketing a drag or does it light you up to share what you are up to?
    • Do you love giving your service or dread it?
    • If you don’t feel in flow, lit up and in love with your business, something needs to change.

So the question is, what would need to change for you to feel that way?

Honestly, this is a question you must consistently come back to in your business, to make sure that you keep creating from a place of love and not from fear (or lack).

Every business needs a makeover from time to time.

If you want guidance and support to do that, you’ll want to join our business model makeover program and we’ll help you think totally outside the box to recreate your business from what your heart feels, rather than from what your intellect is ‘yammering’ on about what you ‘should’ do.

Let nothing stand in your way!

You decided to become an entrepreneur for the freedom, and now it is time to stop enslaving yourself!

Do you speak better than you write?

Do you speak better than you write?

Do you want to blog or write a newsletter, but find yourself resisting all the time, energy and effort it takes to do it? Or maybe you find that you just can’t express yourself well in writing?

I think I found a possible solution to your ‘writing woes’.

It came out of a woe my own.

In January, I found myself spending hours typing up notes for the classes I teach at local nutrition school here in Kelowna, along with handouts for two different online trainings.

I have to admit, it was emotionally draining to spend so much time in front of the computer. But it felt like I didn’t have any other options, so I just kept typing away despite feeling burdened by it all.

And then my body said no.

The strange part was, there was no slow lead up to the pain. I just simply couldn’t type anymore and I felt nauseous in front of the computer.

Screen Shot 2016-04-14 at 5.00.32 PMIt wasn’t like my wrists were hurting and I had ignored it, letting them get worse.

One day I had no pain. The next day I did.

At first I thought it would pass, if I just took a break. So I did. After a few weeks, I spent one day at the computer, and the pain became worse than it had been when it first started.

And so I had to postpone one of my upcoming tele seminar training series……. Oh, I so hated doing that.

I started to have thoughts like, “what is the universe trying to tell me”?, “am I on the wrong path”?, “Is there something else I am supposed to be doing”?

Pretty much everything I love doing: teaching, writing books, blogging, writing recipes, etc. require me to be on the computer or on my phone typing to share through social media!

I started to feel sorry for myself. Not being able to type felt like my creative outlets were all taken away!

A good friend, reminded me that a while back a lady I met at a conference had told me about an app called Dragon Dictation. She used it to create content in her business by “talking to text”.

There it had been, sitting on my phone for all these years and I had never gotten around to
    using it.

    It worked great.

The only problem was, I had to email the text to myself, and then copy and paste it into a document piece by piece–and that hurt “like the dickens”. The only thing worse than typing, was “thumbing it” on my iPhone.

So I figured it was finally time to figure out how to use the dictation function on my Mac.

Low and behold it’s not only easy to set up, but very easy-to-use.

It literally saved my sanity, my work and my wrists….and I am using it right now to write this post!

The reason I’m sharing this with you to demonstrate that sometimes what will liberate us, is often disguised as a temporary misfortune… and also because I thought it might help you too!

If you speak better than you write, this thing could be just what you need to start blogging and creating content for your business.

I created this quick the video tutorial to help you get started.

    Get enhanced dictation here.

I hope you enjoyed the video and that it helps!

Comment below and let me know if “talking to text” is helpful to liberate your voice and get you creating content in your biz?!

7 Steps to Getting Unstuck (even if you’ve been using the same excuses for years and tired of hearing yourself say them)

7 Steps to Getting Unstuck (even if you’ve been using the same excuses for years and tired of hearing yourself say them)

If you are like me, you often feel that your energy is divided between so many of the things that are important to you.

You don’t want to cut corners anywhere, yet feel like you are falling short everywhere.

You want to create a business that compliments, rather than competes for your time (or your kids).

You want to get serious about your dreams of being in business for yourself, but right now though, the lack of support in your life is making you wonder if you really have the energy and confidence to do this.

I mean you already feel overextended as it is.

And yet, the satisfaction of creating something just for you (maybe outside of your role as a mother/wife/partner?) would be sooo satisfying and validating!

There is a reason the creator gave you those gifts, skills and talents (after all you don’t want to die with your dream in you right?)!

I too struggled with feelings of doubt, fear and time poverty before I got serious about my biz.

I oscillated between thinking that I didn’t have to give up my dreams to become a mother and that I would simply ‘do it all’ with my kids in tow…… to – worrying that being successful in business, meant that I had to neglect my kids to get there.

I  had the thought that my business aspirations were causing me to lack presence with my kids and worse, that my they were the reason that I couldn’t fulfill my own and my business’s potential.

With these opposing thoughts carrying equal weight in my brain, I was caught in a double bind…… ‘damned if I did and damned if I didn’t’.

Like you, I found it extremely difficult to get very far with my business, because I was immobilized with fear and indecision.

Somewhere, along the way I discovered that I was under the spell of a ‘program’, one that had been passed on from my mother and my grandmothers.

I literally needed to see my thoughts for what they were, question them and rewire my brain to see what was really true.

Once I discovered that these thoughts were simply ‘symptoms’ and not the ‘cause’, I was able to see clearly that what I really needed to do was heal the pattern. Not just for me, but so that I could pave the way for my own daughter (and future daughter in law!) to not have to struggle, the way I had.

do somethingToday, I’ve made my kids part of my reason to succeed in business, rather than my excuse for playing small.

I have made it my mission as a mother to ensure that my kids will never have to feel conflicted about whether or not living their dreams and serving their children’s needs simultaneously is possible – or question whether it is even the right thing to do ….(yes, I used to feel guilty….. like maybe I was doing something wrong to have aspirations outside of motherhood…as though it was just a necessary trade off to have to martyr myself to be a ‘good’ mom).

And of course, that’s not all….I too had other issues getting in the way of giving myself permission to thrive in business.

I found it extremely difficult to get very far with my business, because I was immobilized with the fear that people wouldn’t pay what I needed to charge to make my services translate into a viable income.

Indecision and lack of clarity kept me paralyzed from taking action.

But that’s not all….I too had other issues getting in the way of giving myself permission to thrive in business.

I was scared to get out there, be seen and speak my truth – especially because my beliefs and my lifestyle was so ‘out there’.

I had been a vegetarian for 13 years, I am anti vaccine, pro home birth and pro unassisted birth (I had two homebirths and birthed my daughter Jasmine by myself on purpose – not by accident on the way to the hospital!).

I breastfed my both my babes for 4 ½ years each, and choose to embark on career paths in unregulated fields.

Most of the time, I felt too alternative and misunderstood (even in alternative circles!). I felt like I had to hide my true feelings and beliefs to uphold some level of PC…enough to at least fly under the radar as a birth educator, Doula and nutritionist…quietly making a difference, but at the same time holding back.

The businesses I wanted to start were unproven. I couldn’t do the market research, because the businesses I envision had never existed before.

I had to trust my hunches, without external support or validation.

In fact, when I graduated with my second certificate in holistic nutrition, my mother in law – a pharmacist – figured I had a lot of nerve to decide that path of holistic nutrition was an authentic profession – without the approval of a regulatory body –gasp! – she took the time to pull me aside to privately and smugly let me know that she didn’t validate me or my chosen career path.

Besides moving forward in the face of disapproval and without support, I also had fears of stepping into the shoes of being seen as an expert, embarking on public speaking. It wasn’t only the stage fright that got to me, but also the fear of ’getting caught’ not knowing the answer or risking the possibility of appearing and feeling foolish.

Finally, I dreaded the thought of being seen as ‘salesy’ or having to experience failure and/or rejection.

Like you, I had too had at least as many internal as external obstacles to overcome.

Beyond the emotional stuff though, it also felt like wading through mud with all the technical learning curves and getting steered off course with quick fixes where I couldn’t see the bigger picture.

I didn’t have someone alongside me who could see where I was at, where I needed to be focusing my attention and efforts, along with the quickest and most painless way to get shit done!

I promise you though, that as scary as it can be to put yourself out there and risk feeling judged, disapproved of or even mocked– the fear of these feelings is universal and every single person who has walked the path as a entrepreneur has had to walk through them to get to the other side.

Even though it is scary, not only will you come out alive (disapproval doesn’t kill, even if it makes you feel like you are dying!), but you’ll soon discover that there is an equal and opposite experience on its way to you.

You will in time feel accomplished, humbled by the praise of people who love you, support you and are so grateful for your service.

But you have to do the work first.

You have to give yourself approval now for your current accomplishments and self validate – by your courage to jump full into the experience and give it your all.

No, you won’t offer the perfect product or service the first time (or ever really… because your standards will keep increasing!).

Of course you can’t give your clients the level of service, that you will be able to give them 3-5 years from now.

But you can rest assured that every risk you take helps you gain confidence, and each success builds on the next.

Remember though, who you are right now is already enough.

It is not a perfect product or process that transforms lives. It is your priceless presence that gives your service the power to make a difference in someone’s life!

Make a decision now to commit to doing whatever is required to make your dream come true.

Here is how to get to the other side of all the reasons why you think you can’t (insert your dream)…

    1. List your excuses and promise yourself that no matter what you will never say that out loud again to anyone, ever!
    2. Recognize that they are symptoms, not causes
    3. Determine the root cause
    4. Change your paradigm
    5. Decide what actions you need to take
    6. Summon the courage to ask for help and commit to the steps
    7. Hire a coach for direction, support and accountability

    Sound easier said, than done?

If you are like me, you know that you’ll never get down to making the space and time to do this on your own.

That’s because the stuff that keeps us stuck the most, is the hardest to look at, and stay with long enough to even look beneath the surface (the symptoms).

It is the stuff that is super difficult to stay present to, and super easy to distract ourselves from.

If you haven’t risen above it on your own by now, it is likely that you never will.

I too was once standing in your shoes, knowing what I needed to do, but never doing it.

Finally, I sucked it up and got the support, accountability and mentorship I needed ….and stayed with the process long enough to make this a life time practice.

What are the negative thoughts that always seem to come up, when you think of getting serious about your secret dream?

Do you have clarity in your business?

Getting clarity about your message, who you serve, designing a business model that Lighthouseactually works for you and having a marketing plan (that you are excited to implement) are the most important foundational pieces of your business.

Yet we often spend the least time contemplating this.

What I’ve noticed is, that most people spend the majority of their efforts trying to move forward in their business by learning (rarely implementing) new tactics for growing and getting out there, even when they still can’t explain what they do.

Most business and marketing trainings will show you what’s possible (and yes, that is certainly inspiring), and they will give you many tools and exciting strategies to grow your business, but most don’t help you get clarity about your message and your offering.

It’s something you can’t get by brainstorming anyway- real clarity is something you feel and comes from the heart- it is to be discovered through heart based inner inquiry

Through attending countless business & marketing courses and events, I see a common theme.

I notice women walking around with very confused looks on their face, because the strategies are WAY ahead of where they are at in their business (how can you put something into practice if you don’t have clarity on how you serve and who you are serving?).

I’ve also met a lot of people at these trainings that say the same thing. Stuff like, “so and so told me I should change my niche or take on that niche because there is demand or those people have money”. And they’ve tried to do what the ‘gurus’ tell them, but it doesn’t work for them despite being a lucrative niche. Why? Because their heart isn’t in it.

Listening to someone else about this most foundational aspect of your business, is like pulling at ‘niche straws’. No one else should be telling you who your niche is (and you can’t find your niche in your mind anyway- if the answer was there, you’d have already found it).

Your niche is in your heart. You can feel who you are meant to serve.

Your niche is the group of people that you have a heart for. The answer is in your heart. That’s why you have to go deep to answer this question for yourself. You have to really stop and look within.

Creating a heart based business is like birthing a child. You should LOVE it so much that you wouldn’t ever think of abandoning it- even if it wakes you up in the middle of the night or makes you want to temper tantrum sometimes.

Your business can be something that is soooo ‘you’ that you wouldn’t dream of quitting.

It should matter so much to you, that you’d do it for the journey -even if you were guaranteed to fail.

If you don’t LOVE your business that much, then why not start thinking ‘outside the box’ and re create it to make it feel that important to you? Create your own service- even if no one else has done it before- and market through your natural passions and hobbies). Your business can be a natural extension of who you are and how you want to live your life.

Get clarity about what you really love to spend your time doing and about that unique blend of qualities that make you valuable.

What happens when we don’t have clarity…

Without having clarity (and the foundational pieces of your business in place), you’ll work 10 times harder -because every thing you create only partially ‘lands’, the work you do slips through your fingers ……. you have to constantly start over.

It’s exhausting. Not to mention, it’s harder to get up again, than to just keep moving forward on something you’ve created from the bigger picture of the whole of your life (and absolutely LOVE).

In order to create from the big picture, you’ll have to widen the scope of your view and look much deeper than just picking a niche and testing out different marketing approaches.

    Perfection Paralysis (Part 3)

http://www.dreamstime.com/stock-photos-woman-upset-stressed-image6690153In part 2 of this article, I promised that I was going to share with you why it is essential to just keep moving forward imperfections and all, plus why it hurts your business and doesn’t really serve your clients anyway-to try to figure out how to make your product or service perfect -before putting it out there.

In part 1 we noticed that when we feel stuck moving forward, we simply need to re orient our focus…away from our insecurities and back onto how what we offer is going to make a difference for those we serve.

In part 2 we talked about how one of the voices of perfection is really speaking to the lack of trust that we feel in ourselves, leaving us blind sighted by our emotional baggage (fear, self doubt, lack of confidence and the voices of perfection that keep us worried).

Today we are going to look at why it actually hinders our work and does not serve our clients to wait until we think we are ready, know enough or get our product or service ‘perfect’ before we put it out there.

Beyond realizing the truth that we’ll never get it ‘perfect’ because not only will our standards change, but so will our awareness.  Deep inside we know that our work unfolds in an evolutionary way. Just when we think we are at the peak, we find another mountain to climb. Life is beautiful like that.

At every phase in our own growth, we have a specific perspective that will uniquely serve a group of people where they are at (a perspective that we will be less able to relate to when we are miles ahead).

Ideally, we are not soooo beyond where the people we serve are at, that we’ve outgrown them… we want to be close enough to invite them to grow with us, while being just far enough ahead to stretch them forward into new territory – a place we’ve traveled or a journey we’ve walked- so that we can guide them.

We can best serve our clients when we are no longer inside their struggle, yet only a few steps ahead, so that we have the patience to meet them where they are at. So no, you do not need to study more or find more time to ‘perfect’ what you offer. All you need to do is walk your clients through the steps they need to, to get where you are (I believe that our soul’s calling is to pick up the rock in the road for others, so that they need not stumble the way that we did).

It hurts your soul and your business, when you stay stuck because you don’t get to feel the fulfillment of doing that thing you love, you are simply postponing your success and people are missing out on the intrinsic value that you bring to their lives!

Now on a more functional note…it doesn’t really serve your clients anyway-to try to figure out how to make your product or service perfect -before putting it out there, because there will inevitably be a gap between what you think they need and what they feel they need. And the only way to bridge that gap is to work with clients and get their feedback, so that you can continue to craft your offer in a way that actually serves their process.

Yes, you should certainly have a coaching plan or signature system that you walk people through to deliver results, BUT be prepared to consistently refine and re evaluate your process.

Here is a simple refinement process that you can use to develop your programs, when you are just getting started and/or wavering in your confidence and getting stuck in perfection paralysis…..

Step 1: Define the outcome that your ideal client desires and list the results that your client will receive by working with you (be specific and tangible). You will need to be able to describe to your ideal client what they will ‘get’ from working with you.

Step 2: Create your signature system by creating a unique process to walk them toward that outcome.

Step 3: Walk at least 3 beta clients  through the process (charge them less than you normally would, but definitely charge them, so that you know you are working with someone who is actually invested in doing the work- you don’t want a passive guinea pig- you want someone who truly values the service you are offering them). Create a clear agreement that they must provide on going feedback (plus a testimonial- with their photo- if they are happy with the service of course)!

Step 4: Use their feedback and refine your process.

Step 5: Get your next clients : ) And of course, charge your regular rate.

If you follow these 5 steps with each new offering, you will not only be serving people in the process, but you will get the exact feedback you need to gain greater confidence in your work -and have the experience behind you to feel congruent with charging for your services.

Before we finish up, let’s summarize my little prescription for ‘perfection paralysis’….

    1) Turn the focus away from your self (and your insecurities) and toward your client so that you stay focused on the transformation you are about to help them create in their lives.

    2) Let go of the emotional baggage that is keeping you doubting yourself and unable to access your true courageous self.

    3) Use a system to consistently refine and improve what you do with your clients (if you are new to your craft, start with beta clients to build your confidence and improve the delivery of your service).

I charge thee, go forth and transform lives!!

    Perfection Paralysis (Part 2)

In part 1 we looked at the voices of perfection and what we are really telling ourselves when we stop moving forward on our original inspiration because of ‘perfection paralysis’.

Here is a little re cap of Part 1….

If you read part 1 of my prescription for getting out of perfection paralysis, you will recall that I suggested to simply re orient our focus…away from our insecurities and back onto how what we offer is going to make a difference for those we serve.

When we focus on how what we are ‘crafting’ is going to help people, we feel excited to deliver that future program, service or product…but when stricken by ‘perfection paralysis’, we become sidetracked by our emotional baggage (fear, self doubt, lack of confidence and the voices of perfection that keep us worried).

    Those voices say….

    1) I don’t know enough yet (I need to study more)
    2) I am not good enough (I don’t have inherent value)
    3) I’m not ready yet (I don’t have enough time to get it perfect)
    4) When it’s  ’perfect’ , then I will put it out there (I don’t trust myself)

When we don’t know our intrinsic value, we don’t trust ourselves to deliver ……

The truth is though, that you could simply show up and provide value just by being you! Every thing else is simply value added.

But even if you ‘get’ that intellectually, you might be wondering.. how can we really embody that feeling so that it drives us to act in a way that actually serves us- instead of being consumed with perfection paralysis?

We have to drop the emotional baggage that snuffs out the flame of our courage and confidence.

If you suffer from perfection paralysis, you may have noticed that  it can’t be really be effectively ‘coached’ out of you…that is because the root cause of the issue is emotional.

We can to some degree push ourselves to overcome letting fear and doubt stop us (and yes, that is certainly a step in the right direction while creating more courage to build on our successes)…but at the end of the day….as the elation of triumph dies down and life moves on…we are still left the ‘old stuff’ waiting for the next opportunity to come up and finally be healed (released).

But what if we could actually feel and release it from our emotional body-without years of therapy?

What if we could get off the the exhausting cycle of …breakdown & breakthrough…into one of bring up & breathe through?

Letting the baggage go and releasing the need for safety, control and approval makes for a quiet mind and allows us to access all the energy that was  once tied up in these emotions.

    Emotional releasing in a nutshell….

When you feel a negative emotion you can release it by noticing the sensation in your energy system (emotional body), staying with the sensation, intending to release it now and with your awareness, simply allow it to release  by bringing your breath to the sensation (just the same way that you would in a yoga asana to release physical pain and tension)- I liken it to emotional yoga.

It is a natural process that you used to know how to do, when you were a child. All negative emotions want to be released- all we have to do is say ‘yes’ to them instead of suppressing and avoiding.

It is a lot easier to do it with you than to explain it because it is experiential…..you only get the results if you actually do it (and keep doing it).

Want some more guidance to get started with the ‘ins and outs’ of emotional releasing?

If what I’ve shared in this article resonates, you are welcome to join my free intro video e-course…once you are inside the program, you will not only learn how to emotionally release, but also how to access your intrinsic value so that you can let go of trying to prove yourself with perfection.

Approval is an inside job- but you knew that.

Somehow along the way we lose touch with how to access the part of ourselves that knows our worth, feels good enough ‘as is’ and has nothing to prove. When we uncover our true self, we don’t need things to be perfect….. and of course that is when it all starts to feel perfect!

In part 3 I am going to share with you why it is essential to just keep moving forward imperfections and all, plus why it hurts your business and doesn’t really serve your clients to try to figure out how to make your product or service perfect -before putting it out there.

But you’ll need to do the emotional releasing work in order to fully allow your self to transform your perfection paralysis (at least without pushing yourself and draining your energy) in part 3 of my perfection paralysis prescription- to come.

    Perfection Paralysis (Part 1)

When I first got started in business, I had a big case of perfection paralysis.

http://www.dreamstime.com/stock-photos-woman-upset-stressed-image6690153I would work myself into a frenzy before I taught a class. Writing hand out after hand out, trying to make sure that I didn’t miss one thing (partly because I wanted to make sure that my students and clients had ‘everything’ they needed to implement and move forward – and partly because I was trying to make sure that I ‘knew everything’ so that I wouldn’t make a fool of myself (and goddess forbid, not know the answer to something).

This probably all started for me with a mantra that my father used to say….

“If you are not going to do it ‘right’, then don’t do it at all.”

Ouch….that is a recipe for not doing it at all, isn’t it?

Hearing words like that growing up implies that your parents likely often used shame and humiliation to get you to do what they thought was best for you.

Shame (of all feelings) is the lowest vibration and if you are operating from that place of unconsciousness, then life will continue to be a struggle for as you orient your life to avoid disapproval (or to gain approval).

If you’ve been ‘programmed’ from childhood with ‘perfection paralysis’, it will keep you stopped and stuck, not only in your business, but in all aspects of your life.

This is what it often looks like in your business…..

It often looks like feeling really excited about something you desire to offer (in the beginning) and then when it comes close to delivery time….you start to feel fear and dread (even though you once felt lit up with joy about it).

Here’s what you are telling yourself if you are stuck in the fear and shame cycle of perfection paralysis….

Notice anything out of alignment here with wanting to be in service and make a difference in the world?

Those thoughts are all “me, me, me” centred!

You can be sure that when you are feeling insecure about what you offer, that your focus has shifted from the desire to serve- to wanting to gain approval or wanting to avoid disapproval.

    Let’s turn that around….

Now focus back on your client and on how what you offer is going to make a difference for them. That’s when you’ll start to shift back into feeling excited to do that thing that you came here to do.

Stay tuned for next week’s part 2, where I will share with you how to move past your perfection paralysis (you can sign up for my newsletter in the opt in box at the top right hand side of the page if you want to automatically receive it by e-mail).

24 tips to manage your energy (for mamapreneurs)

It’s no secret that time management doesn’t work for moms. If you are a mamapreneur, then you know that life with kids in tow is full of the kind of surprises that make it nearly impossible to stay on track with a schedule.

http://www.dreamstime.com/stock-photography-mom-son-working-image14358692If you are a mom who wants to be, do and have it all, then you will need to learn how to manage ‘who you are being’ with time. You simply don’t have the luxury of winging it.

Throughout my 12 years of being a mamapreneur, women often tell me that they are amazed at how much I get done and undertake whilst children in tow. They often ask me how I do it, so I thought I would share my paradigm around being the kind of mom who ‘gits er done’, without having to do it all!

To sum it up, I manage my energy (not my time) and nurture my health, home, family and work in a rhythm in tune with nature’s cycles….I don’t feel like I have to do it all at once, because there is literally a season for everything.

Without further adieu, here are my 24 tips to manage your energy for holistically minded mamapreneurs:

    1) Put you on the schedule first (schedule family and kid stuff around that).

    2) You don’t need to meet every single one of your child’s needs, you just need to get their needs met.

    3) Plan your household tasks in a rhythm that is in tune with the moon’s supporting energies.

    4) Charge enough for your services so that your business can give back to you (and you can give back to your family).

    5) Delegate (VA, housecleaner, nanny, childcare, advanced food prep, assistant, tutor etc.)

Moon Cycles6) Create momentum work retreats (full moon is great for this, book a room in a hotel and order room service so that you can work uninterrupted or send hubby on a camping trip with the kids so that you have the house to yourself).

    7) Take the new moon week off from seeing clients (so that you can recharge, be creative or take your family on an adventure).

    8) Block schedule client sessions so that you don’t feel like you are ‘always on’.

    9) Plan your business tasks in line with the supporting moon energies. Here is a great article on how to do that, with a handy printable chart that Carrie over at Pink Elephant Academy for Entrepreneurs put together based on her interview with me!

    10) Integrate your social life into your business by serving the kind of clientele you’d be thrilled to have over for dinner (meet as many of your social needs through your work so that you don’t have to compartmentalize your life).

    11) Include your kids in your business (no excuses, get creative).

    12) Do your housework and cooking when the kids are home (don’t be tempted during your biz hours).

    13) Menu plan so that meals are easy. Create a kitchen binder of your favourite fast healthy meals that you can throw something together when you get off track with your menu planning (because inevitably you will).

    14) Get your hubby to agree to contribute to the domestic duties. Seriously ladies, please don’t take on more than your share of the domestic duties when you are both working…seriously, put your foot down.

    15) Do work you love. Remember, if mama ain’t happy, ain’t no one happy.

    16) Only take ‘perfect for you’ clients (ditch the clients that drain you).

    17) Do not be tempted to accept visits during your work hours (you desired the flexibility of being an entrepreneur so that you can be flexible with your self, not so that you could be at the ‘beck and call’ of friends and family).

    18) Set your marketing up so that it works while you sleep (create an opt in sequence that engages with your perfect clients so that they are practically ready to say yes to working with you, even before you connect with them 1 on 1.

    19) Work with skype video, so that you have location freedom (that way you can work from home,  homeschool or travel with your kids).

    20) Hire a mentor/coach so that you don’t waste your energy and effort…avoid wasting time reinventing the wheel and get the help you need to go in a straight line towards what you desire.

    21) Create a very simple ‘rinse and repeat’ business model that matches your unique strengths so that you can feel on top of it all.

    22) Hang out with entrepreneurially minded moms, trade childcare & have work/play dates.

    23) Create a business that matches the time you have-be realistic, start ups take energy and they need momentum.

    24) Include your hobbies, passions and edgy opinions in your marketing…..showing the real you, helps your perfect clients know that you are the one for them- that means you can re purpose the stuff you do for fun to market your services and best of all it makes your marketing come alive!
